Pain-Free Prayer
Better Sleep,

It Was Never Your Knees

Five times a day, your knees meet the floor. Lately, you shorten sujood.

Not because your iman changed, because your knees did.

It was never your knees failing your salah. It was a mat never built for sujood.

Pain-free sujood. Valid salah. Both. Every prayer, for the rest of your life.

The Most Important Part Is Where There's Less Foam

Every other mat races to add more foam everywhere. We went the other way.

8cm at the knees. High-density memory foam that molds to your joint shape the moment you land. The pressure disappears. Your joints absorb nothing.

1.5cm at the forehead. Deliberately. Firm. Press down. It doesn't give.

Your head finds the floor. Scholars require this. It's the first thing we checked before we ever carried it.

Every Feature Has a Purpose.

Will your sujood still count on this mat? That's the first thing we figured out.

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen's ruling (IslamQA fatwa 96107): "If the sponge is thin and will flatten out when he prostrates, there is nothing wrong with it."

Our forehead zone is 1.5cm. No foam under your forehead, it's just the mat. Press down and your head meets the floor.

Your Salah is valid. Not "probably." Valid.

The pain isn't from kneeling. It's from the landing. The descent into sujood puts up to 5× your bodyweight on the knee joint in one moment, every single prayer.

Standard mats leave your knees hitting the hard floor. The Sakinah Mat’s memory foam absorbs the impact and diffuses the pressure

The foam molds to your knee the moment you land, spreading that force across a wider surface.

Your knees don't touch the floor. They touch foam that feels like nothing.

Most mats get this wrong. They add thick foam everywhere and call it comfort.

What they actually create is doubt. The forehead sinks in, doesn't find a firm surface, and the sujood becomes questionable.

The forehead zone is deliberately thin.

Press your head down with full weight. It compresses fully. Your forehead finds the
floor. The ruling is satisfied. Your prayer is valid.

8cm at the knees. 1.5cm at the forehead. The difference between those two numbers is the whole product.

5 prayers a day. 1,825 prayers a year. 12,000+ prostrations. Most foam mats flatten within months.

The memory foam is high-density to hold its shape after years of daily use. Press it down. It springs back. Every time.

The cover unzips. Machine wash it on a normal cycle. The foam insert stays out and dry between washes.

Silicone dots on the base grip tile, hardwood, and carpet. The mat stays exactly where you placed it. No sliding mid-prayer.

70 × 110cm. Larger than a standard prayer mat. Your knees stay on the mat the entire prayer.

FAQs

Is my salah valid on the Sakinah Mat? +

Short answer: Yes — provided the mat is clean and your forehead settles firmly during sujood. Below is the basis for that, with sources.

Praying on a padded surface is permitted

Ṣalāh does not have to be performed directly on a hard floor. The majority of jurists permit prayer on clean rugs, carpets and similar surfaces.

Imam Ibn Qudāmah al-Maqdisī records in al-Mughnī that there is no problem praying on mats, woollen rugs, cotton, linen and other clean materials, describing this as the position of the general body of scholars.

So cushioning under the body is not, in itself, a question at all.

The condition concerns sujood

The point scholars do discuss is the forehead. In sujood it must come to rest securely, it should not remain suspended on a surface that keeps sinking or springing back.

This is the criteria the entire question turns on. Not thickness. Not softness. Stability.

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn was asked directly about foam beneath prayer carpets. He ruled:

"If the foam is light and compresses when one prostrates upon it, there is no problem."
— Majmūʿ Fatāwā wa Rasāʾil al-ʿUthaymīn, 13/183–184

He further explained that a person praying on foam should press down naturally in sujood until the forehead settles and becomes stable.

Note what permits it: the foam compresses. It yields, bottoms out, and the head reaches firmness.

The same principle in the Ḥanafī school

This is not a single opinion. Earlier jurists stated the same criterion:

Imam Zayn al-Dīn Ibn Nujaym al-Ḥanafī held that prayer on a cotton-filled surface is permissible when compression allows the forehead to encounter a stable surface.

Imam Kamāl al-Dīn Ibn al-Humām al-Ḥanafī stated that prostration on cotton or a padded rug is valid when the worshipper finds sufficient firmness — and is not valid if the face continues sinking without becoming stable.

What this means in practice

Ṣalāh on an ergonomic mat is valid when:

- the mat and its surface are clean;
- the cushioning supports the knees without preventing the normal position of sujūd; and
- the forehead area allows the forehead to settle firmly and remain still.

How the Sakinah Mat is built around this

8cm of cushioning where the knees land. 1.5cm at the forehead zone, which flattens fully so the head settles on firm ground rather than continuing to sink.

The mat is intended to reduce pressure on painful knees, not to replace sujūd, and not to raise the forehead onto an artificial platform.

A note on medical concessions

Someone medically unable to perform normal sujūd has separate concessions in the sharīʿah, including praying seated and indicating sujood with the head. That is a different question from this one, and this mat is not a substitute for it.

How long does the foam last? +

The airgel memory foam (IFD 28D) is high-density and maintains its shape over time. Unlike cheaper foams that flatten in months, this foam is built to last years of daily use. Press it down — it springs back.

Is this only for elderly people? +

No. Whether you're 25 or 75, praying 5x daily on hard floors adds up. Prevention is better than waiting until the pain is severe. Many buyers are young Muslims praying on hardwood apartment floors.

Can I wash it? +

Yes. The cover has a zipper so you can remove the foam and wash the cover separately.

What if it doesn't work for me? +

60-day return guarantee. No questions asked. If it doesn't improve your prayer experience, send it back
